Cats Have Opinions. We Take Them Seriously.
Cats do not care about trends, marketing, or what looks good on a shelf. They know what feels right: a place where they feel safe, a texture that comforts them, and something that awakens their curiosity.
That instinct guides everything we make. At Kitty Cat Habitat, we create handmade wool caves, beds, and toys inspired by the way cats naturally rest, hide, play, and explore—letting their behaviour lead the way.
The best designs begin with cats.

The Journey Started with Patrick
I met Patrick while working at a veterinary clinic. He had come in to be neutered after he, his mother, and his siblings were rescued by CatNap Society, a local non-profit the clinic worked with.
I spent my lunch break sitting beside him while he recovered. I wasn’t looking for an emotional support animal at the time, though in hindsight, I may have needed one more than I realized. The connection between us was immediate. By the end of the day, I had submitted an application to adopt him.
His foster mother had written in his bio that he could make a game out of anything. It was one of the first things I learned about him, and years later, it remains just as true.
But Patrick’s place in my life reaches far beyond his playful nature. He is my emotional support companion, my best friend, and Kitty Cat Habitat’s Chief Executive Cat.
When I look at him, I see hope, peace, and tranquility, qualities that can feel difficult to hold onto when the world becomes uncertain. He reminds me to slow down, stay present, and notice the quiet joy in ordinary moments.
He has also taught me that cats do not need much to be happy: a place where they feel safe, something that awakens their curiosity, and someone willing to pay attention.
Nothing I Bought Him Was Right
Like most cat owners, I bought the toys everyone buys: plastic gadgets, electronic toys, and products based more on how people imagine cats play than on what cats actually enjoy. A few held Patrick’s attention briefly, but most were forgotten within a week.
The beds were no better. Many were made from foam and polyester, which can trap moisture and odour and are difficult to clean thoroughly. Cats spend so much of their time grooming that cleanliness matters to them. Once a bed no longer smells or feels right, they may simply stop using it, leaving another expensive purchase unused in the cupboard.
Things changed when I bought Patrick a felted wool cave. He took to it immediately and continued using it long after the novelty should have worn off. That was when I began to wonder what wool was offering him that the other products had not.

It Was the Wool
Wool breathes. It resists odour on its own, without treatment. Felted densely enough, it holds its shape instead of flattening into a mat, and it creates the kind of enclosed space cats look for on their own.
None of that is new. Wool has been doing it for a very long time. What surprised me was how few people were building for cats around it, and how much of what did exist was thin, loose, and made down to a price.
So I made prototypes. Patrick decided which ones stayed. The ones he returned to became the wool cave we still sell today, and he tests everything that has come since.
Who Makes Them
We partner with organizations whose expertise and knowledge of wool, cork, and hemp have been shaped over generations. In Nepal and across Europe, that knowledge is rooted in the places where these materials are grown, gathered, and transformed, giving each product a genuine connection to its source.
The relationships we build matter just as much as the products that come from them. We work alongside partners who care deeply about their craft, their communities, and the long-term impact of their work, and who approach each collaboration with the same openness, care, and sense of responsibility that we do.
Ultimately, we believe thoughtful products come from thoughtful decisions—about the materials we use, the people who shape them, and the world we all share.

Safe Places to Work
Clean drinking water, proper facilities, protective equipment, fire safety and first aid.
Giving Back
Patrick came into my life because of CatNap Society, a local non-profit cat rescue organization that saved him, his mother, and his siblings. Our connection to their work has remained deeply personal. Over the years, we have contributed to their annual auctions, produced tote bags for them at cost through our fair trade partners, and sold those bags at markets and online, with 100% of the proceeds going directly back to the organization.
That relationship shaped the way we choose to support those who serve our community and our animals. Rescue organizations, veterinary professionals, first responders, and members of the military each carry responsibilities that often ask more of them than most people see. As a veteran-owned business, we understand the value of service and believe gratitude should be expressed not only in words, but through the choices we make as a company.
We proudly offer a lifetime 10% discount to military veterans, first responders, animal rescue organizations, and veterinary professionals. It is our way of recognizing the compassion, commitment, and care they bring to the people and animals who depend on them.
We are also an official business partner of the CF1FC Member Appreciation Program. Through this partnership, we are proud to express our gratitude to Canada’s military community and recognize the service, sacrifice, and commitment of its members and their families.
Thank You for Being Here!
Whether you are here for a cave, a bed, a toy, or just to see who is behind this, thank you for taking the time.
Everything we make began with one cat who knew exactly what he wanted. We are doing our best to keep listening.
